I recently began reading a book called Long Way Down by Jason Reynolds, and I have to say, I am thoroughly enjoying it. The characters are complex and interesting, and the plot is gripping.

Meet the Characters

In Long Way Down, we meet several different characters, each unique in their own way. The main character, Will, is a teenage boy who is grappling with the loss of his brother. He is struggling to cope with his grief and is constantly haunted by memories of his brother's death.

Other characters include his mother, who is trying to keep her family together in the wake of their loss, and his uncle who provides a support system for Will during this difficult time. There's also Shawn, the brother who was murdered, who we only really get to know through Will's memories and flashbacks.

The Plot

The plot of Long Way Down centers around Will's decision to seek revenge for his brother's murder. The book takes place entirely over the course of a single elevator ride, as Will makes his way down to the ground floor of his apartment building, where he plans to confront and kill the man he believes responsible for his brother's death. As he descends, the elevator stops at every floor and new characters enter, each with their own story to tell and their own reasons for being there.

As the elevator makes its way down, Will is forced to confront the harsh reality of his situation and the people he meets challenge his beliefs and force him to reevaluate his decision to seek revenge.

My Thoughts

Overall, I would highly recommend Long Way Down to anyone looking for an engaging, thought-provoking read. The book's unique format, with each chapter consisting of a single elevator ride and a new character, keeps the reader engaged and curious. The characters are well-drawn and relatable, and the story touches on important themes such as grief, loss, and the cycle of urban violence.

While the book can be heavy at times, it is ultimately a hopeful and inspiring story about the power of connection and the importance of forgiveness. I couldn't put it down and I think it's definitely worth checking out!
